2025 NFL Draft Prospect: Tyler Booker
Rundown:
Tyler Booker is a 6’5 335-pound offensive guard from the University of Alabama. Booker is a rare case as he was one of the few true freshmen to have ever started along the offensive line during the Saban era. Appearing in 12 games for the Tide, Booker went on to be named a Freshman All-SEC member and all received Freshman All-American honors from Pro Football Focus. Booker followed up a stellar freshman season with an even better 2023 season. Starting at left guard, Booker earned Preseason All-American Honors, became an Outland Trophy Semifinalist, & was named 1st Team All-SEC as a true sophomore.
Despite being a younger player, Nick Saban heralded Booker’s efforts as a leader on and off the field. Booker also became one of the mouthpieces of the team with the media along with Jalen Milroe & Malachi Moore. At Alabama, that’s a rarity. Typically, freshmen aren’t allowed to do press in any capacity. Having a true sophomore become one of the leaders and media representatives only speaks to how much Coach Nick Saban and his teammates trusted him. He’s also known for his charitable volunteer work in the community.
Booker is widely known on the field for his power in the run game. Moving down linemen off the mark is his specialty, but it’s not all he’s good at. For a man of that size, Booker moves very well and showcases good agility. Booker has already tabbed Preseason All-American & Preseason All-SEC honors. Although a long time away from now, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Booker become a permanent team captain per Alabama tradition. While the offensive guard position has been somewhat undermined regarding draft position in recent years, Booker is projected to earn some serious Day 1 consideration.
Pros:
Massive, NFL ready frame. Tackle length arms allows for him to create natural buffers in pass protection while also slowing down pass rush moves. Allows for displacement in the run game at full extension.
Powerful lower body and core strength. Road-grader in gap scheme blocks. Excellent in kick out blocks while pulling.
Effort and intensity shines. Frequently chasing players downfield. Finishes blocks through the whistle. Takes pride in getting players on the ground.
Quicker feet than you’d expect. Does a very good job mirroring in pass protection. Pass off stunts well. Fantastic job climbing to the second level in the run game.
Cons:
Weight can fluctuate at times. Played last season too heavy and it shows in certain areas.
Aggressive nature plays against him in spurts. Allows defenders to user hand techniques to get his hands off of them.
Can struggle with shorter down lineman that have natural leverage.
Shoulders can get turned in pass protection. Creates easy rush lanes for defenders and can be exploited through certain blitz packages.
Games Scouted: (All 2023 Tape) Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, Arkansas, Michigan, & Texas A&M.
Overall:
Specimen of a player with a well rounded skill set and great attitude. Day one 1st round grade. OG1 as of today.
