Rich Rod Week 1 Presser Notes
JACKSONVILLE - After the 55-27 home loss in the season opener to Coastal Carolina, head coach Rich Rodriguez and the Jacksonville State Gamecocks look to put that game in the rearview.
The next task? A road contest at Louisville against the defending ACC runner-up. Here’s what Rich Rod had to say at Tuesday’s press conference in response to my two questions.
Q: How fast do you look to put games like this behind you? Do you watch the tape? Scrap it all together? What do you learn from a game like this?
A: “Normally it’s the 24-hour rule…whether you win or lose you take 24 hours to really evaluate what you did well, what you didn’t do well. We probably took a little bit longer than 24 hours just because we had the extra day, but beyond that, you’ve got to move on. Whether it’s good or bad if you let it linger on it will affect the next game. I think our guys have done a good job at that.”
Q: Louisville’s front seven presents a unique task with their legitimate NFL talent up front, how much does their ability affect your play sheet?
A: “You run the risk of when you think geez we’re not going to be able to do this and this…then you add a bunch of stuff and you wind up confusing your guys. We’ve got to get better at what we do well. Our guys know that. This is gonna be (a game) where you can’t make mistakes against a team this talented. It’ll show up even more. We’ll do what we do. Well maybe try to add something here or there. These guys are going to be hard to block, but at the same time, we’ve got to run our stuff.
